NEWS RELEASE: DR. TAYLOR STOERMER EXPANDS HIS COMMITMENT TO ULSTER COUNTY

New Paltz, NY (August 4, 2014) - On Tuesday, July 29, Dr. Taylor Stoermer and the Board of Trustees of Historic Huguenot Street agreed that, effective immediately, he be relieved of his position as day-to-day Director of Strategy, Development, and Historic Interpretation at the National Historic Landmark District so that he might focus on completing the strategic plan for the organization and pursue other opportunities that have recently arisen.

"I thank Historic Huguenot Street for the opportunity to be an important part of renewing such a special place," said Dr. Stoermer. "I have enjoyed every moment of my time in New Paltz, helping to lay a new foundation for the future of the site, one worthy of the stature of this extraordinary National Historic Landmark District.  Now is the right time for me to step back and take a broader view of the organization's strategic position as I complete the plan and work on exciting new heritage initiatives for Ulster County and the Hudson Valley."

"There is no question that Historic Huguenot Street is now on the right path as a result of Dr. Stoermer's direction," said Mary Etta Schneider, Board Chair and President.  "His contributions to the institution have been beyond our expectations, and while we will miss his energetic and enthusiastic presence on the Street, we look forward to continuing to work with him as we complete the strategic plan."

Previously at Colonial Williamsburg, Dr. Stoermer joined Historic Huguenot Street in January to manage a Strategic Planning Process that would lay a foundation for the organization's growth.  During the past seven months, he hired accredited staff for key positions, developed a fresh interpretive and programming model, and put into place a targeted fundraising system and new membership structure, all of which was necessary for the successful implementation of any strategic plan.  Consequently, Historic Huguenot Street has already exceeded total donations, visitation and memberships for all of 2013, has established itself as a regional leader in heritage tourism, and enjoyed enhanced media visibility.
